What is a Notary Public?
A Notary public is an individual, usually a Lawyer, in Alberta authorized to Certify documents including Affidavits and Statutory Declarations. Our Notaries are very experienced and will guide you through the process carefully.

Notaries are authorized to certify copies of original documents. This means that they can make copies of original documents that are, in many cases, considered as legally valid as an original.

Documents executed in Alberta and attested before a Notary Public for Alberta are not always accepted in other countries, including the US, unless you also obtain a Certificate of Authentication.
Once our Notary has notarized your document for you if you wish your notarized documents to be recognised outside of Canada, we can apply for the notarization to be authenticated by the Government of Alberta.
If a document is required for use outside Alberta a Notary Public can provide Certification which would be acceptable to foreign (or out of province) authorities.
Some documents require your signature to be witnessed by a Notary Public. Examples of these are;

What is the difference between a Commissioner for Oaths and a Notary Public In Alberta?
There is some overlap between the roles of Commissioners for Oaths and Notary publics, an individual may be both a Notary and a Commissioner for Oaths.
Whether you need a Notary Public or Commissioner for Oaths depends upon you document you have and the purpose of it.
Only a Notary Public can provide certified copies of original documents to you.
